Under the hood
What happens after you hit post.
Handing an app access to your social accounts is a reasonable thing to be careful about. So here is the whole process, step by step, with no hand-waving: what Shortcast watches, what it downloads, what it changes, and what it does when something goes wrong.
Detection
We notice the new video
Shortcast checks your main channel every five minutes and compares the latest video against the last one it saw. On Facebook there is no waiting at all: Facebook notifies us the moment you publish. Only videos posted after you connected the account are picked up, so connecting never triggers a flood of old uploads.
Download
We fetch the original file
Rather than saving the shareable export, Shortcast pulls the original video at the best available quality. That is why reposts do not carry the TikTok or Instagram watermark, and why the version on your other platforms looks like the one you uploaded.
Preparation
We make it fit each destination
The video is checked against each platform’s rules for file size, duration and orientation, then prepared as a clean vertical 1080×1920 upload. Your caption is carried across, and for TikTok and YouTube you can set your own default title instead.
Publishing
We upload to every connected channel
Each destination is published independently, so a problem on one platform never holds up the others. The channel the video came from is skipped, because reposting to yourself is not the point.
Safety net
We retry, then we tell you
Uploads fail for boring reasons: a timeout, a rate limit, a platform having a bad afternoon. Shortcast retries automatically with a growing delay between attempts. If a repost genuinely cannot be published, you get an email explaining what went wrong instead of silently missing a post.
Which way round?
Your main channel is the one Shortcast watches. Today that can be TikTok, Instagram or Facebook, and everything you connect alongside it becomes a destination, YouTube included. Here are the routes people set up most often:
